One Bangkok joins hands with Bangkok Art and Culture Centre to organize “URBAN IN PROGRESS: One Bangkok’s Edition” Exhibition
One Bangkok joins hands with Bangkok Art and Culture Centre to organize “URBAN IN PROGRESS: One Bangkok’s Edition” exhibition to driving the city towards a sustainable future.

One Bangkok, Thailand’s largest integrated development in the heart of the central business district of Bangkok, collaborated with Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) to organize “URBAN IN PROGRESS: One Bangkok’s Edition”, a contemporary art exhibition that explores the changes in Bangkok from the past to the present, as well as the potential future trends and possibilities, with the focus being placed on the importance of mutually beneficial coexistence between human being, city, and nature, as well as on reflecting human’s commitment to adaptation in order for them to live in harmony with urban change in a sustainable way. The exhibition is held at The Prelude One Bangkok during 11 May – 31 August 2022.

Worawat Srisa-an, Deputy Chief Executive Officer - Development, One Bangkok, said that “One Bangkok emphasizes the concept of sustainable urban development, constantly support the arts & culture sector, enhance people’s quality of life and become an integral part of surrounding communities. We are delighted to partner with BACC under a common vision to organize the art project “URBAN IN PROGRESS: One Bangkok’s Edition”. This is a travelling exhibition in which we work with BACC to curate and exhibit some of the artworks from the URBAN IN PROGRESS project, held during December 2021 - April 2022 at BACC, in a novel perspective. The selected artworks of the 3 artists ideally depict the transformation of Bangkok in many dimensions and contexts from the past to the present and towards the future, as well as their efforts to bring about positive changes in the city. This is in line with the goal of One Bangkok, which is set to transform Bangkok city-centre and become a new global landmark destination as a fully integrated district built on people-centric principles and a focus on environmental sustainability and smart-city living.”

“URBAN IN PROGRESS: One Bangkok’s Edition” is intended to inspire the audience with the notion that, despite being a mere part of the ecosystem, humans — whether as individuals, groups, or communities — play a significant role in bringing about positive changes in cities as well. Among the artworks from the creators who took part in the exploration of the city in progress are:

  • Fragile City / Photographic Records of Bangkok from the National Archives Collection by Asst. Prof. Pirasri Povatong, Ph.D., Lecturer of the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, and Specialist in the History of Thai Architecture in the Rattanakosin Period - convey the changes of Bangkok through glass plate negatives, both complete and partially damaged, to present a look into the city that may not be perfect and is in constant change, as well as to reflect novel possibilities in looking at the city from both realistic and idealistic perspectives.
  • Documenting the Exploration of Bangkok’s Waterways and Its Vicinity, 2021 by Wit Pimkanchanapong, Artist, Designer, and Founder of DuckUnit - explore the current network of rivers and canals in Bangkok and its vicinity — once the city’s main transport network — as an infrastructure and a natural traffic network to discover and subsequently understand the neglected nature, as well as how to travel on the city's historic infrastructure as another way of living today and in the future.
  • Biogenesis 2121 by Suriya Umpansiriratana, Silpathorn Award-Winning Architect and Founder of Walllasia - present a perspective on adaptation in order for humans to coexist with urban change in the future through the symbolic contexts of water and habitat to find an answer as to how the relationship between things in the ecosystem, whether it be human, water, tree, sunlight, or technology, can be sustained if humans have to live with water.

“One Bangkok has an awareness and strong enthusiast in the changing urban landscape of Bangkok.  We are keen to support and collaborate with all stakeholders and parties in attempt to create good changes for the city, and welcome collaboration with other art organizations, aiming for sustained art communities. This exhibition opens a learning space for people to explore the changes of Bangkok in different dimensions through artistic perspectives, as well as creates a driving force for public engagement in leading Bangkok towards a better and sustainable future,” added Worawat.

“URBAN IN PROGRESS: One Bangkok’s Edition” exhibition is held at The Prelude One Bangkok during 11 May – 31 August 2022.  Visitors can also learn more details about this exhibition on The Prelude mobile application.
